Primary Responsibilities

Manage the operational execution of the Geotechnical & Construction Materials Testing Field Crew in Fort McMurray. Execute the implementation of new inspection and testing offerings, Work with Regional Manager to develop plans to cost-effectively execute the business objectives. Build, mentor and manage the field operations team to deliver on contractual and ongoing service deliverables to our client base.

Regional Operations Manager – Geotechnical Construction Materials Testing

Specific responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring operational targets and key performance indicators related to operations are managed.
  • Collaborates on project proposals and responses to tenders, RFP/ RFI’s working closely with the Operations Manager - Geotechnical to ensure that project scope, schedules, and budgets are accurately planned, monitored, communicated and met.
  • Active with existing clients to develop positive and open relationships in order to proactively increase client satisfaction and reduce non-compliances
  • Participate in strategic planning on major projects and implement the performance execution of new and existing service lines
  • Superior organizational skills as well as a professional, transparent and fair approach to listening and communicating with clients, peers, direct and indirect reports.
  • Manage operations staff liaisons to the client on materials testing projects and mentors the Project Coordinators, Field Supervisors with scheduling of technicians, equipment, HSE to fulfill the client’s field / lab testing and monitoring requirements.
  • Develops yearly cost budgets for Operations related expenditures including, but not limited to: Training (technical, operational and HSE), Equipment (trucks, testing equipment), planned expenditures (new testing services)
  • Liaise with Project Coordinators regarding project change orders that are above or below the original proposed scope and specification (i.e. manpower forecast change)
  • Leads the project set-up, coordination and supervision which includes – assigning review of project drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Leads and develops sustainable solutions and plans to field and lab problems encountered
  • Leads field audit planning to ensure proper equipment handling, operation and maintenance is being performed.
  • Manage auditing of field personnel to proactively ensure deficiencies are recognized and corrected, records are maintained to support internal QA/QC documents.
  • Liaise with the SGS Oil sands Quality Manager
  • Responsible for follow up with clients after project closure.
  • Advises Operations Manager on major issues or concerns
    that impact on the department.
  • Develops, trains, implements Quality control systems to ensure KPI’s are met

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum ten (10) years Civil Construction Geotechnical & Material Testing management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high performing teams.
    • Proven experience in managing multiple internal / external projects and client requests.
    • Proficient in MS Office.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Familiar with developing and deploying Quality Management Systems
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
      • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
      • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
      • Excellent knowledge of national and international legal and quality standards
      • Must be creative, innovative and customer-focused.
      • Ability to operate to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and integrity in accordance with the SGS Code.
      • Valid Driver’s license.
