Laboratory Manager.



To conduct tasks as outlined below and assigned by the Supervisor. These duties are required to be performed in the laboratory and in the field in accordance with the relevant test methods and procedures.


Tasks and functions of this role will be dependent on the level of experience and training. Tasks will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Trainee
• Maintaining cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
• Assisting in the sampling and preparation of samples.
• Assisting in conducting testing.
• Assisting in the booking in of samples.
• Ensuring safe work practices are followed.
• Conduct other tasks as directed.
• Technician (includes Trainee tasks where appropriate)
• Booking in of samples and jobs into the computer system.
• Routine calibration and set up of equipment.
• Performance and calculation of routine tests.
• Routine field sampling and testing.
• Calculation, checking, reporting and certification of test results in accordance with accreditation.
• Planning, conduct and reporting of complete job requirements.
• Senior Technician (including all duties above)
• Supervision of technicians and trainees as required.
• Conduct of training of trainees.
• Running of independent field laboratory operations including all aspects of calibration, testing and reporting for the tests required.



Qualifications and experience, whilst desirable, are not essential.


• Good understanding of numbering and ordering
• Ability to retain information
• Ability to follow both verbal and written communication
• Ability to work under general to limited supervision


In order to meet business demands, the ability to undertake temporary periods of work in regional locations is required.


• Compliant to all SGS OH&S and HR policies and procedure
• Responsible for own safety and health at work, and for others at work
• Must follow lawful instructions from employer for their safety and health
• Must wear PPE, clothing and safety equipment as instructed
• Must care for and maintain safety equipment
• Must report safety or health issues in the workplace
• Granted sufficient authority to achieve the given responsibilities as per relevant SGS Authority policies
