SGS Canada is currently seeking a Bird Monitor to join our Tailings & Wildlife team in the Alberta Oil Sands.

The Bird Monitor position is responsible for the delivery of quality Bird and Wildlife Management services.

A day in the life of an SGS Canada Bird Monitor:

  • Perform bird and wildlife surveys (including nesting surveys and bird counts). 
  • Bird hazing activities, auditing of bird deterrent systems, data entry and report writing.
  • In addition, the individual may be asked to assist with operational tailings activities including pond sampling and sounding, insitu testing, instrumentation installations, mudline and pond elevation surveys, etc.
  • Drive a truck on rough roads frequently.
  • Ensure daily completion and submission of all reports and other necessary documentation, including timesheets and vehicle logs.

We are looking for someone with the following Skills, Experiences and Qualifications:
  • Must be legally eligible to work for an employer in Canada without sponsorship. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental or other related science field.
  • Experience with Avian Wildlife identification (specifically wetland, marsh, or water associated avian species).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a valid Oil Sands Safety Association Basic Safety Orientation  (OSSA BSO) ticket.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Ability to work long hours in adverse weather conditions
