Job Summary:

The Business Development Manager is responsible for maintaining and building relationships with current accounts relating to SGS's Virology services in the multiple market sectors where services are required.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of an international sales team to achieve or exceed the Territory Sales Plan by applying a working knowledge of SGS service capabilities to increase business in existing accounts whilst identifying and developing new accounts.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships, at all levels, within assigned accounts to influence purchasing decisions.
  • Communicate competitor activities, market trends, changing client priorities and other opportunities and threats.
  • Develop and implement custom approaches for client accounts including for example… face-to-face meetings, phone calls, technical meetings, pricing strategy, service agreements.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute a Territory Plan to demonstrate effective planning and management of KPIs, including routinely updating a forecast and CRM.
  • Undertake travel within sales territory in a cost/time effective manner.
  • Oversee proposals and quotations and submit these to clients within the defined timeframe, ensuring technical, timeline, and costing requirements are agreed in advance with operations teams.
  • Circulate and file clear and concise meeting reports from face-to-face meetings and conference calls, ensuring actions are allocated to appropriate colleagues and actions are closed to the satisfaction of the customer.
  • Obtain and update a working knowledge of the regulatory guidelines as they relate to the SGS Vitrology client base and market.


Education, Required Skills & Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Micro Biology, Molecular Biology, Virology or related field.
  • Proven track record of sales over a period of 3 or more years for biosafety services. Related experience and knowledge is also acceptable, such as a Business degree and 5+ years experience in the life science industry.
  • Knowledge of biotechnology market and biosafety requirements
  • Professional communication skills and ability to present information in a succinct format
  • Competent with computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Skype
  • Ownership and ability to drive own KPIs and targets
  • Respect for people and interpersonal skills with an awareness of different cultural styles
