A day in the life of an SGS Feild Inspector:
  • Sample vessels, railcars, trucks and stockpiles following the established protocols to obtain representative samples.
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen samples as required.
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
  • Archive, return or dispose of client samples as per work sheet instructions.
  • Log client samples into the system and prepare sample labels.
  • Conducts basic testing (speedy moisture, moisture, etc.). 
  • Works from sketches, detailed specifications and verbal instructions.
  • Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis.
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
  • Carries out routine equipment maintenance under the direction of his/her supervisor.
  • Interpret and evaluate all results.
  • Compiles data, analyzes and prepares reports. 
  • Maintains a clean working environment.
  • Follow all company health, safety and environmental policies.
  • Follow all Quality system protocols and report any discrepancies to the Supervisor. 

Ideal Candidate:

  • A high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • A post secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering) is a strong asset. 
  • A minimum of 1 – 3 years of experience in an industrial setting is a strong asset.  
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (Class 5 Minimum) or equivalent from another province.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
