PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

§  Responsible for performing analyses as defined in the Matrix of Laboratory test and Analyses and reporting test results according to the Quality Management System policies and procedures.

§  Also responsible for troubleshooting technical-related problems and coaching lab analysts I and II and lab aides/lab technicians.

§  Responsible for assisting Junior / Operations Executive in overseeing the day-to-day operations of his / her assigned section.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Reviews samples against Request for Analysis and / or claim stub and/or other information for routine and special or non-routine tests (inlcuding but not limited to sample size, method, availability of reagents/equipment for testing, TAT)
  • Coordinates with clients/affiliates on matters related to test requests when designated by the supervisor
  • Performs sampling, sample preparation and analyses as defined in the Matrix of Laboratory Tests and Analyses and in accordance with the standard test method, QMS & Safety Polices defined in the Safety Manual.
  • Performs preparation of media, reagent, test solution and standardization of volumetric solution in accordance with the standard test method and/or work instruction
  • Conducts special tests such as client-supplied procedure and substantiating advertising claims
  • Performs witnessing of analyses and/or auditing tasks
  • Participates in various proficiency / correlation programs
  • Reviews new procedures when designated by the supervisor
  • Conducts method validation and provides inputs on method improvement
  • Develops analytical methods/test procedures not traditionally done in the laboratory
  • Operates, maintains, and performs verification procedures on equipment used in performing analyses and/or under the lab section
  • Conducts troubleshooting on equipment being used and recommends or devises corrective action for instrumentation procedures
  • Assists in overseeing laboratory tests being done in his / her section and in reviewing analytical results with concerned analysts.
  • Trains and checks capabilities of assigned laboratory analysts I and II and lab aide/lab technicians
  • Corrects the performance of laboratory analysts I and II and lab aide/lab technicians as to certain techniques, procedures and other technical concerns as a form of assistance to the supervisor.
  • Conducts troubleshooting of technical-related problems and suggests concrete steps to address technical problems
  • Participates in the evaluation of PT performance and provides inputs to improve performance in the next rounds
  • Analyzes and interprets standard laboratory test results including statistical quality control charts and uncertainty of measurements
  • Prepares uncertainty of measurement worksheets for special and non-routine tests.
  • Reviews and evaluates uncertainty of measurements worksheets when designated by supervisor
  • Signs worksheets and job instructions
  • Evaluates lab analyses results and drafts reports
  • Validates results registered in Laboratory Information management system
  • Checks and signs draft reports and test reports in the absence of immediate supervisor or when designated by the supervisor
  • Conducts training/awareness sessions for internal staff and  clients when designated by the supervisor
  • Recommendatory authority in allocating work assignments of laboratory analysts and lab aides/lab technicians.
  • Ensures that work area and assigned laboratory equipment are clean, safe and secured in accordance with company safety manual and QMS.
  • Prepares purchase request for laboratory supplies
  • Requests for cash advance / payment of divisions expenses subject to review of immediate superior and approval of Laboratory Operations Manager
  • Ensures compliance to the Group and national policies including but not limited to the maintenance of the Quality Management System
  • Operating to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Code of Integrity.
  • Complies with the QHSE policies including but not limited to:

o    Demonstrates strong commitment to SGS QHSE Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions by participating in safety meetings, completing required training, intervening in unsafe situations, refusing unsafe work, and complying fully with all applicable laws and regulations related to QHSE.

 

o    Responds appropriately to emergency situations and assists other staff members in maintaining readiness to respond to emergencies within the workplace.

 

o    In accordance with the SGS QHSE Management System requirements, disposes of, or directs the disposal of, waste generated as a part of daily work performed in a safe manner and in compliance with all waste transportation and disposal regulations and requirements.

 

o    Reports all incidents (actual incidents and near misses) in accordance with the SGS Incident Reporting requirements.

 

o    Uses all equipment (including safety equipment) in the manner intended and reports any damaged / lost equipment to supervisor.

 

o    Maintain a safe and tidy worksite.

 

o    Maintains awareness of hazards and proposes controls to supervisor, QHSE Representatives or relevant client / site contact.

 

o    Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by SGS management.

 

PROFILE

 

§  BS Chemistry, BS Biochemistry, BS Agricultural Chemistry, BS Microbiology, BS Clothing Technology and other related sciences.

§  With Professional license depending on the course taken.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

 

Experience/Technical Knowledge

§  Core (Integrity, Work Standard, Customer Service Orientation, Communication), Professional / Technical knowledge, Functional (Organization skill, Analysis / Problem Assessment, Attention to Details / Quality orientation, and Judgment / Problem-solving).

§  Computer-literate, laboratory-oriented, communication skills, can work on weekends and on shifting schedule whenever required.

§  Experience: At least 5 years laboratory-related experience.
