• A post secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science etc.) is required for the majority of these positions, or 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting with a High school diploma.
• A minimum of 8 years experience in an environmental analysis related field (WET Chemistry, Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, ICP/ICPMS, Microbiology and Sample Reception).
• 1 – 3 years of previous leadership experience is required.
• Strong leadership skills and experience in the supervising of small technical teams, ideally including the supervising of people in an environmental related laboratory.
• Previous experience using laboratory instruments and the ability to operate and trouble-shoot them.
• Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good management practices.
• Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
• Candidates must be proficient in using various type of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.).
• Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
• Ability to work well with others & independently.
• Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
• Works well under pressure.
• Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
• Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
• Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
