SGS currently has an opportunity for an experienced Marine Surveyor/inspector to join the Inspection and Maritime Services division, based in Karratha, WA.


The fundamental responsibility of the Marine Surveyor/Inspector is to ensure surveys and inspections are conducted in accordance with correct standards and procedures to ensure customer satisfaction.


As a Marine Surveyor/Inspector, your key responsibilities will include:

• Controlling and directing shipping operations;
Surveying of ships to ensure they are maintained in accordance with operating procedures to maintain cargo integrity. Surveys may include: LNG, Crude Oil, Gas, Chemicals and bulk loadings of dry cargoes;
• Involvement in draft surveys (start middle & end), trimming of vessels, load plan preparation and loading of tidal conditions;
• General marine inspections including on/off hire, bunker condition, hold/tank cleanliness and damage; and
• Sampling of commodities as required.


Your previous experience in the shipping industry coupled with your customer orientated approach will ensure your success within this position.

The successful candidate will also possess:

• Marine qualification, preferably Master Class I, minimum Chief Officer Certificate of competency (desired but not essential);
• Previous experience in the operation of different vessels and associated cargo;
• The ability to obtain and maintain Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC);
• General knowledge of the shipping industry;
• Strong organisational skills
