This role will be responsible for coordinating the laboratory activities to ensure their proper implementation and customer satisfaction. He/she will perform various tasks related to the coordination of daily and weekly activities such as preparing service offerings, reviewing mandates, planning laboratory tasks, assigning tasks, maintaining business relations with clients, suppliers and subcontractors, reviewing reports and other related tasks.
 
This individual will be the internal technical liaison for the Calgary facilities and work performed shall be executed in a way that ensures S.O.P., quality procedures and OHS best practices are followed.
 
Lab Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory testing as required
  • Ensure all machines, instruments and lab equipment are maintained in accordance with maintenance and calibration program requirements.
  • Purchase and/or review purchase requests for parts and equipment
  • Ensure all testing in the lab is completed properly and on a timely basis
  • Coach junior staff in performing proper test, techniques, and timelines
  • Sign-off on staff competencies for lab tasks and tests
  • Ensure lab S.O.P.’s and procedures are documented and up to date
  • Perform HSE functions as required
  • Conduct quarterly lab inspections in the Calgary location
  • In collaboration with the Quality Lead, develop, write and maintain currency of testing procedures
  • Work within and support the adherence to the ISO 17025 quality program
  • Receive samples and distribute as required
  • Assist with the training of laboratory staff as required
 
Quotes, Work Orders, Reporting Responsibilities
  • Act as the client liaison for ongoing work, quotes, questions and reports in Calgary as required
  • Work with clients and our internal legal department on T&C and MSA changes or submissions
  • Generate work orders, schedule and track laboratory testing
  • Review and sign lab reports and invoices for Calgary location
  • Review and sign lab reports on an "as needed basis" for Edmonton location
PROFILE
  • Post-Secondary Education in Materials Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Must have CET designation.
     
    REQUIRED SKILLS 
  • Experience working within ISO 9001 or 17025 quality programs
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
