A day in the life of a LIMS Technician SGS Canada:

• Review continually the need to improve the LIMS and work with other managers and staff to maintain open lines of communication and a mechanism for timely feedback.
• Establish and maintain appropriate internal checks, security, and controls to ensure data integrity and the existence of appropriate safeguards to protect the Company’s assets and the clients’ data. Ensure LIMS design and security are compliant with ISO guideline 17025.
• Write programs as required to assist with the management of the laboratory.
• Maintain personal technical knowledge in chemical analysis, data calculation, LIMS software, and associated software systems to manage workflow.
• Initiate and develop clear communications channels with peers in other departments to optimize the benefit from, and use of, the LIMS.
• Maintaining the integrity of the LIMS database by monitoring system usage to ensure it is within established parameters.
• Developing a good understanding of LIMS capabilities and that of interfacing software to maximize usage and prevent system failure.


Ideal Candidate:

• Education: Post-secondary education in Science, Computer Science or a related field
• Laboratory experience is an asset
• Previous experience with computer programming and databases is an asset.
• Good understanding of LIMS applications and procedures.
• Solid understanding of various lab procedures and general knowledge of instrumentation.
• Knowledge of XML and SQL and experience with VB Net would be an asset
