QUALITY/TECHNICAL MANAGER (Geochem – Waihi)

 

 

REPORTING LINE

Waihi Laboratory Manager

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Have a general overview and responsibility for all quality, technical, training and compliance aspects of the Waihi GeoChem Division.

 

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

· Ensure and maintain an adequate training system is in place that fully meets the requirements for all sections of the Waihi GeoChem’ Division, incorporating local and SGS Global procedures/protocols

· Ensure staff compliance with both local and SGS Global procedures/protocols

· Assist with managing the quality aspects of the Waihi laboratory including the LIMS

· Assist with maintaining the quality management system at Waihi

· Assist Waihi management team with gaining and maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation

· Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order and appropriately calibrated

· Work with senior staff to continuously improve all aspects of quality at Waihi  


 

 

PROFILE

·         Have a complete understanding of the quality, technical and quality requirements Waihi Laboratory.

·         Have an understanding of the service and maintenance requirements of the instruments used at the Waihi Laboratory.

·         Flexibility with working hours and tasks.

 

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

·         Proven supervisory experience to expert level including the ability and experience in management reporting and checking technical data

·         Advanced computer literacy including using databases and excel spreadsheets.

·         Excellence in communication both oral and written, including report writing.

·         Ability to work with others in a team environment.

·         Good organisational skills

·         Proven interpersonal skills including the ability to supervise and manage resourcing and dealing with people.   

·         Professional and customer focused at all times

·         Some understanding of laboratory management and/or the minerals/mining industries would be an advantage.

·         The ability to problem solve and think analytically

·         The ability to challenge the status quo to achieve quality commitments and continuous improvement

·         Unrestricted New Zealand Driving Licence.

·         Previous experience in general laboratory environment

·         Proven experience working as a flexible team player

·         Fully understand the quality requirements of a modern industrial laboratory including the LIMS.

·         Have an understanding of the service and maintenance requirements of laboratory instruments.

 

 

OPERATIONAL INTEGRITY / HEALTH & SAFETY

·         Demonstrates strong commitment to HSE Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions by participating in safety meetings, completing required training, intervening in unsafe situations, refusing unsafe work, and complying fully with all applicable laws and regulations related to HSE

·         Responds appropriately to emergency situations and assists other staff members in maintaining readiness to respond to emergencies within the workplace

·         In accordance with the HSE Management System requirements, disposes of, or directs the disposal of, waste generated as a part of daily work performed in a safe manner and in compliance with all waste transportation and disposal regulations and requirements

·         Reports all incidents (actual incidents and near misses) in accordance with the Incident Reporting requirements

·         Uses all equipment (including safety equipment) in the manner intended and reports any damaged / lost equipment to supervisor

·         Maintain a safe and tidy worksite

·         Maintains awareness of hazards and proposes controls to supervisor, HSE Representatives or relevant client / site contact

·         Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by management.
