Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Senior Payroll Analyst will provide subject matter expertise to the Payroll Team on all aspects of payroll ensuring that payrolls are done accurate and on time. This position is not responsible for any direct reports.
The Senior Payroll Analyst will be responsible for all government and payroll remittances coordinating with the payroll team and AP to ensure payments are accurate and on time.
The Senior Payroll Analyst will coordinate that the payroll accruals, journal entries, general ledger are done on time for month end, making sure to work in conjunction with the Financial Analyst to answer all questions related to payroll.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Assist on special projects and gross up calculations as required. 15% of time
  • Responsible to ensure appropriate controls are in place to meet all SOX and payroll audit requirements 15% of time
  • Coordinate the preparation of materials for external and internal auditors 5%
  • Reconciliation of Payroll Remittances  5% of time
  • Provide guidance to and support team members with workload, general inquiries and decision making processes  15% of time
  • Oversee the activities of the Payroll Department across Canada to ensure the provision and maintenance of an accurate bi-weekly payroll system, including:  40% of time
  • Entry of bi-weekly payroll and adjustments
  • Executing bi-weekly/monthly Payroll Reporting for all business units
  • Performing bi-weekly Edit Checking
  • Reviewing registers from Ceridian prior to Employee deposits
  • Performing month-end reporting
  • Performing quarterly register maintenance (i.e., vacation accruals, pension discrepancies)
  • Performing reconciliations for various payroll accounts to ensure accuracy of monthly remittances
  • Performing the calculation of taxable benefits for company automobiles and allowances
  • Responsible for Year End process coordinating year-end reporting requirements Reconcile and prepare year-end tax forms, T4's, T4A's, WCB and Employer Health Tax Reports, etc.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation to statement of contributions. 2.5% of time
  • Coordinate Annual Information Return and associated pension reports. 2.5% of time
Education, Skills and Experience
  • Education: A post secondary education (degree) in a field related to Payroll or Human Resources is required
  • Experience: over 5 years of previous working experience in a Payroll Analyst role with multiple-site responsibilities – preferably serving multiple provinces.
  • Completion of CPM Certified PayrollManager with the Canadian Payroll Association is required.
  • Experience with Ceridian or ADP software is must.
  • Experience processing payroll for more than 2000 employees.
  • Previous experience using Human Resources Information Systems would be an asset (ex. Oracle, Ceridian, HPL).
  • Ability to deal with sensitive, confidential information and documentation with discretion and tact.
  • Must have a customer-service, can-do attitude
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently and manage priorities effectively.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Proven record of leading process improvement initiatives and defining standards
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
