A day in the life of an SGS Shipper Receiver:

  • Determine best method of shipping using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates. 
  • Prepare bills of lading, customs forms, packing lists and other shipping documents in adherence to shipping and receiving procedures and regulatory compliance policies. 
  • Maintain compliance with laws (e.g. soils permits), regulations (e.g. Transportation of Dangerous Goods), and standards (e.g. ICCP-Certified wood packaging) and complete appropriate documentation as required 
  • Contact carrier for quotes and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of material.
  • Pack, seal, and label materials to be shipped
  • Inspect and verify inbound/outbound material against manifests, purchase orders, invoices or other documents, to verify accuracy of shipment. 
  • Receive all inbound material in internal record-keeping systems (e.g. Oracle, SIMS).
  • Phone and/or correspond with carrier and suppliers to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and non-conformance to specifications.
  • Distribute received material to identified departments/personnel or warehouse location.
  • Perform cycle counts on laboratory supplies; order and maintain accurate stock.
  • Maintain accurate records of all inbound and outbound materials for reporting and accounting purposes. 
  • Maintain shipping and receiving area. 
  • Know safe storage and handling procedures for various chemicals and materials.
  • Perform general physical activities in order to load, unload, sort and move shipments by hand or using material handling equipment (e.g. fork lifts, pallet jacks).


Ideal Candidate:
  • Must be legally eligible to work for an employer in Canada without sponsorship.  
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma, and may require some vocational training. 
  • 1- 3 years of experience in Shipping & Receiving related field is an assest (we will train). 
  • Driver’s license and Forklift certificate or previous experience would be an asset. 
  • Physically able to lift 23kg (50lbs) and ability to work from heights. 
  • Must be comfortable transporting contained chemicals to different departments throughout the site.
