GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 

The Technician – Engine Testing at SGS – ETC will act as a primary test cell operator in a heavy-duty engine emissions test cell. Typical activities will include independent execution of test pans as provided by the engineering team, installation of engines in the test cell, and maintaining lab equipment. This position will require significant time spent in engine test cells.

 

Testing will be focused on heavy-duty engines, but may involve testing a broad range of engine types. Projects may include performance and emissions development, calibration, and/or validation and compliance testing. In many cases, test results may be used to demonstrate emissions conformity to state and federal agencies, and will be conducted in compliance with 40 CFR Part 1065 and other relevant regulations.

 

The Technician – Engine Testing is expected to always act with integrity, strive for the highest in data quality, and fully support the testing process.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 

General Professional Responsibilities:

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for executing daily test plans in accordance with customer requirements and ensuring the test results are of the highest quality and accuracy
  • Responsible for monitoring the accuracy and quality of all test data generated
  • Responsible for the installation of engines into the test cell and configuration of test bed operation system for safe and optimal testing
  • Responsible for installing instrumentation, set up of test control interface, and various measurement devices, including configuration of data channels and test profiles
  • Become proficient at using the test cell automation systems
  • Assist facility and instrumentation engineers to maintain emissions analyzers and ensure plumbing, air supply, and fuel supply are adequate for each test configuration
  • Conduct engine maintenance and component changes
  • Fabricate and/or modify engine test components as required
  • Responsible for maintaining engine and laboratory equipment, and troubleshooting of lab instrumentation
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Participation in laboratory environment and safety management program
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.


PROFILE


  • 3+ years of experience in engine and/or vehicle testing for performance and emissions
  • Associates degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in engine or vehicle maintenance, repair, and diagnostic troubleshooting
  • Skilled use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
  • Ability to approach problems in a scientific manner and implement resolutions with minimal guidance
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and variable schedule(s) as necessary
  • Ability to effectively communicate and articulate ideas, operational & test quality issues to engineers and managers.

  • Able to use motorized equipment to move vehicles and materials.
  • Able to bend, squat, lift up to 50 lbs. stand or sit for up to two hours.
  • Use basic hand and power tools to maintain engine and laboratory equipment.
  • Use a MS Windows based computer including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and custom software.
  • Able to read and interpret data to participate in data quality review and troubleshooting activities

  • In accordance with the SGS HSE Management System requirements, disposes of, or directs the disposal of, waste generated as a part of daily work performed in a safe manner and in compliance with all waste transportation and disposal regulations and requirements
  • Reports all incidents (actuals and near misses) in accordance with the SGS Incident Reporting requirements.
  • Uses all equipment (including safety equipment) in the manner intended and reports any damaged / lost equipment to supervisor
  • Maintains awareness of hazards and proposes controls to supervisor, HSE Representatives or relevant contact
  • Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by SGS management

  • Valid driving license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must successfully pass drug screen and background check.
