SGS Canada is currently seeking a Welding Technician to join our Ludwig Materials Testing group.


This position will be responsible for testing welders for “B Pressure” renewals, as well as job tests, and the development of welding procedure specifications under the direction of the Welding Services Lead. 


A day in the life of an SGS Canada Welding Technician:

  • Work with engineers, technologists and trades people to help our clients succeed in the construction of critical oil and gas infrastructure projects
  • Interpret regulatory and statutory requirements, codes and customer specifications relating to fabrication, welding and materials
  • Monitor welding parameters, and write procedure qualification records and welding procedure specifications under the direction of the Welding Services Lead
  • Prepare in-house work orders that communicate testing requirements to other departments and maintain traceability of samples and associated documentation under the direction of the Welding Services Lead
  • Interpret laboratory test report results under the direction of the Welding Services Lead
  • Conduct welder performance qualification testing under the supervision of the Welding Services Lead
  • Assist clients with the implementation of welding processes and technologies

We are looking for someone with the following Skills, Experiences and Qualifications:
  • Must be legally eligible to work for an employer in Canada without sponsorship. 
  • Post secondary education ( Diploma in Welding and/or Weld Process Technology, or Welding Technician) is required.
  • Welding Examiner Certificate of Competency issued by ABSA is an asset.
  • CSA W178.2 Level 1 Welding Inspector Certificate of Compliance is an asset.
  • Must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of ASME Section IX.
  • Familiarity with API, NACE and AWS codes and standards would be an asset.
